LIVING ON PURPOSE (Fixed!)
Show Notes Transcript

This episode was inspired by the life and death of Congressman John Lewis, and starts to explore on how we too can make our lives more purposeful.  There will be more on this topic!   After receiving feedback from listeners and friends, you will find two changes from previous  podcasts:  shorter and easier to digest, and more silence.

This week I had my birthday, I am early in my 7th decade.

A good day to reflect on the question my teacher, asked me casually in 1990 in Ganeshpuri India:  Where are you going?

This is a question that has evolved from thinking about my career at that time,  to knowing that it is also about my life’s purpose and my spiritual path.

ODE TO JOHN LEWIS

There is more death than usual

around us now.

Like a bad wartime story.

Better focus on living with purpose,

Knowing every day counts

Every day we can choose to live with honor,

to follow the way of great human beings

Like John Robert Lewis.

John Lewis

A conscious man

he wrote his life

approaching death,

He wrote his wishes

clearly and succinctly.

He called for action

to keep moving forward.

He urged the good people

to continue what he started.

He walked across the bridge

turning hate and fear

into love and hope.

we can all follow him,

answering the highest calling

of our hearts.

Rising above darkness and hollow words

Keep moving into light and virtuous action.

Make good trouble, he said,

redeem the soul of America.

DIVINITY EVERYWHERE

I remember open hearted generosity

in farm villages in India and Greece,

In the Himalayas of Nepal and Bhutan,

The Andes of Peru and Ecuador,

They shared their food and their space;

Crowded huts without running water or electricity.

When we too can recognize divinity and goodness,

wherever we look, whomever we see

we won’t need world friendship day.

SILENCE

Allowing the space for Silence

Accepting the power of purpose

Appreciating living and loving

Being your own unique self
